PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) - Photos of unidentified students looking sluttish and kissing in a classroom are provoking a huge flap among Cambodians using Facebook.

On Friday, Rasmei Kampuchea, the nation's leading daily, ran a front-page story on recent Facebook posts, notably by one Hean Vannak, who claims to be a Norton University student.

The newspaper said they featured photos of four girls in white shirts with loose buttons and mini-skirts as well as a boy and girl engaged in a passionate classroom kiss.

Regarding the first photo, a Facebook user called Khan reportedly commented: "Whose children are they? My god! ... Ah Leap where you got them?"

Chamrong, another Facebook user, fumed: "Nowadays, young Cambodian generation commit such a crazy thing."

Someone else called Saophoan opined "they don’t deserve to be Khmer women” while another person called Mook said it was an "unbelievable" photo. "They look like evil spirits," he said.

As for the second photo, Sopheap wrote: "Kissing mouth-to-mouth, they look like school students, so haughty."

While Smart Boy commented that “Cambodia now is so developed", a person called Julien King asserted that the teenagers were "fetid" bamboo shoots.

"How can they be bamboo? Their future will definitely be brighter. The boy will become a drug trafficker and the girl will become a beer promoter," he said.

Another Facebook "friend", who asked not to be named, told the newspaper: "They are so young. They should study hard and not post such immoral pictures on Facebook."

“This is their private right. But if they take such photos, it’s not good at all. They should keep such photos to watch by themselves, not post on Facebook like that.

"Those who commit such things are not at fault. But those who look at the photos will definitely judge that Cambodian girls are all deplorable," he said.

Another person who asked not to be named was angry. "Such photos are not worth looking at," he said. "But they affect other students who have good manners and truly study hard.”
