Vietnam (Cambodia Herald) - An 86-kilogram Mekong giant catfish caught last week has died at a fish farm in the southern Vietnamese province of An Giang, Vietnamnet reported.
The report on Wednesday quoted An Giang Fisheries Department chief Tran Anh Dung as saying that the endangered fish was wounded when it was caught in the Bassac River last Saturday.
A local police officer who bought the fish for 16 million dong ($800) reportedly said the fish was "very healthy" when it was taken to the fish farm.
The report said the fish died after being released into a pond and that "several women" were seen "applying some medicine on the fish" beforehand.
