PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) - Beehive Radio owner and Democrats Association director Mam Sonando appeared in court Monday on charges of being a ringleader of a failed secession in Kratie province.
About 30 members of the association as well as some human rights activists and journalists were outside the court.
"We haven’t assumed anything. We only know that he wasn’t involved in the land dispute." said Mam Sonando’s wife Din Phanara. "If the court system is just, Mam Sonando will be released."
Mam Sonando was arrested on Sunday morning after returning from abroad last week.
Dhin Phanara expressed hope that the French Embassy would help her husband since he had dual citizenship.
She said she had already called for assistance on Sunday from the embassy and other international institutions but had not yet received a response.
