PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) - The Anti-Corruption Unit says it has ignored a lawsuit blaming Prime Minister Hun Sen for the deaths of hundreds of people in a stampede in 2010.
Om Yingtieng, the head of the unit, said the suit by Soung Sophorn, head of the youth wing of the opposition Sam Rainsy Party, was politically motivated.
Speaking to reporters Monday, he said the unit did not open an investigation because there was no evidence.
Soung Sophorn filed the suit on November 30 and also sued Royal Palace Minister Kong Sam Ol and Phnom Penh Governor Kep Chuktema.
On December 19, Phnom Penh prosecutor Meas Chan Piseth dismissed the suit.
Hun Sen has announced his intention to file a counter suit to protect the government’s reputation.
